Liturgy Commission

The Liturgy Commission is responsible for coordinating all the liturgical ministries, as well as evaluation and preparing the worship.

Art and Environment Committee

“One God, many gifts.” A similar phrase describes the Art and Environment Committee - “One destination, many roads.” We have all been blessed with a variety of wonderful gifts, among these our senses and our minds. Uniting the latter in a total experience of the Eucharistic Celebration is the ongoing purpose of this Committee. By working to enrich the celebration in this way, we hope to encourage the use of our God-given gifts to return thanks and praise to God.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers play an important role at Mass by helping in the distribution of the sacred Body and Blood of Christ. Eucharistic Ministers are assigned either to distribute the Eucharistic bread or cup at Mass and are generally scheduled two, possibly three times a month. In preparation for your ministry, there will be a two-hour mandatory training session in church. Eucharistic Ministers are mandated for a three-year period with renewal available, if the minister so desires.

The most important word that we speak is the Word of God. Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the assembly at Mass. Lectors play an important role in the Liturgy of the Word. Effectively proclaiming Scripture requires time for prayer, study and practice. Ideally, a lector should have some public speaking experience since it requires standing in front of the assembly and articulating the readings distinctly and clearly. To do this effectively, the lector must have a strong, personal faith and be able to reveal that faith through simple, natural delivery of the Word. Lectors read at daily Mass, Sundays and feast days.

Altar Servers

St. Barbara’s altar servers consist of school aged girls and boys from grade 5 through high school. Training is usually conducted in the Spring and includes any current 4th graders. If training is desired by new parishioners, please feel free to contact the parish office. The servers are taught to assist in weekday, Sunday and Holy Day Masses. Serving promotes respect, reverence, teamwork, and responsibility toward the Liturgy.

Music Ministry

St. Barbara’s Music Ministry is designed for all ages of parish life. We have an adult choir, a cantor ministry, as well as instrumentalists playing at various liturgical celebrations. Membership is open to anyone with a passion for faith being brought forward through music and or voice. Please read further to see how you can become a part of a beautiful ministry at St. Barbara Parish.

  St. Barbara Adult Choir
The St. Barbara Adult Choir sings at both the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Liturgy and the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Liturgy on a rotating basis. While it is encouraged to attend liturgy on a regular basis, it is also understood that at times, family or work commitments will take priority. Our music is a combination of contemporary and traditional songs, giving life to liturgy. The choir is here to support and encourage the full, active, and conscious participation of the assembly. Rehearsal for the 2012-2013 season will be held on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., most being in the Music Room located in the Parish Center. A schedule is given to all members of the ministry.

St. Barbara Resurrection Choir

The St. Barbara Resurrection Choir sings for funeral celebrations throughout the year with rehearsal prior to the liturgy. While many of our members are retired, any adult who is available during the morning hours Monday through Saturday when funeral celebrations are held is invited to join. No prior singing experience is required. Instrumentalists are also invited and encouraged to participate.

St. Barbara Cantor Ministry

St. Barbara Cantor Ministry is open to those individuals who are “pitch” oriented and are able to lead an assembly in singing responsorial psalms, gospel acclamations, and other various pieces of music within a liturgical celebration. Rehearsals are scheduled as needed and cantors are scheduled to sing at various Mass times. The minimum age for this ministry is High School.

St. Barbara Instrumentalists

Instrumentalists of every kind are welcome. We are seeking for one or more individuals who can play organ and or piano as well to assist in choir accompanied liturgies. Additionally, woodwind, brass, strings, percussionists, keyboard, bass and guitar players are always welcome, not only to accompany the choir, but for any of the four weekend liturgies. The accompaniment of instruments adds energy and beauty to the music. It is not necessary to commit weekly, we are flexible!!

Hispanic Ministry

There is a Spanish Mass every Sunday at 12:30 p.m.  Baptisms, Marriages, and Quinceañeras celebrations are provided and must be scheduled in advance.

Children's Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered to all children ages three to eight years old who are attending the 9:15 a.m. Mass. While at the Children's Liturgy of the Word the children will hear the Sunday scripture readings in a kid-friendly tone. They will then have the opportunity to participate in the adult-led group discussion on the meaning of the reading. Each week Children's Liturgy of the Word concludes with a short interactive project before each child returns to their family in church.

The ushers are present at weekend and Holy Day Masses and other services when requested by the Pastor. They welcome and assist all who attend. They are responsible for collecting the financial contributions from the congregation.

Eucharistic Adoration

Every Monday afternoon, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., there is exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for private and silent devotion at St. Barbara Church.

Rosary Group The Rosary is recited in Church Monday through Saturday after the 8:00 a.m. morning Mass.
